Richard Koci Hernandez is an Emmy Award winning visual journalist with 20 years of experience. In 2007 after taking his first mobile photograph, he was hooked on the medium's potential and immediacy. Recently, he joined the faculty at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism where he teaches various New Media courses, including Mobile Reporting. Koci Hernandez presented a mobile photography Master Class at the TED2012 conference and created an online iPhoneography course at Lynda.com. He shares is his work on Instagram, where he has gained over 90,000 followers and produces a blog on mobile photography called lofimode.com
Evan Vucci is a photojournalist and multimedia producer for the Associated Press based in Washington, D.C.He has received awards from Pictures of the Year International, NPPA's Best of Photojournalism Competition, White House News Photographers Association, The Associated Press Managing Editors Association, and a national Edward R. Murrow award.He ventured into multimedia journalism in 2007 and is committed to developing short and long form documentary storytelling at The Associated Press.
Meredith Birkett is a senior multimedia editor for special projects at MSNBC.com, a general news web site seen by more than 37 million unique users each month. Birkett has worked at MSNBC.com for nine years. In this role, Meredith works as a liaison with freelancers, picture agencies and staff multimedia journalists to produce multimedia projects across all sections of MSNBC.com. Meredith also produces popular multimedia features such as The Week in Pictures and the Year in Pictures. Throughout her years at MSNBC.com, Meredith's projects have earned recognition from organizations such as the Online News Association, Pictures of the Year International and the National Press Photographers Association. Meredith has been called upon to share her multimedia experience as the news industry focuses more attention on their online publications. She coaches and teaches at multimedia workshops and speaks at industry conferences about the evolving story-telling methods and marketplace for multimedia reporting.
Seth Gitner is an Assistant Professor of Newspaper and Online Journalism at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. Previously he was the multimedia editor for The Roanoke Times/roanoke.com in Roanoke, Va. Before entering the online news side of journalism, Seth was a photojournalist for 10 years. Each month he writes a column for the National Press Photographers Association's News Photographer Magazine called Multimedia Moments. Gitner's multimedia storytelling has been recognized by both the Pictures of the Year International Contest and the NPPA Best of Photojournalism Contest.
Will Sullivan is the Director of Mobile News for Lee Enterprises Inc. and was previously a 2010-2011 Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Fellow at the University of Missouri, where he studied mobile, tablet and emerging technologies. Before that, he was the Interactive Director of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch where he lead the organization's mobile, social and multimedia initiatives. Sullivan was recently selected by Editor and Publisher as one of the "25 under 35" innovative leaders in modern journalism and he's won more than a dozen professional awards from organizations including the Online News Association, Society for News Design and National Press Photographers Association.
The Multimedia Immersion in Syracuse, NY will be held May 15 to 19, 2012, it is an intense, five-day, hands-on training workshop for visual journalists looking to expand and grow their multimedia skillsets using the latest technology, that is run by The National Press Photographers Association.
